The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a global leader in combating illicit drugs, crime, and terrorism. The Pacific office in Suva, Fiji, has expanded its portfolio to include anti-corruption, transnational organized crime, maritime crime, cybercrime, human trafficking, and environmental crimes, contributing to regional security and the rule of law.
Job Purpose
This internship at the UNODC Pacific office in Suva, Fiji, offers a 3-month opportunity to support the Regional Programme for Southeast Asia and the Pacific. The intern will contribute to strengthening the rule of law and protecting vulnerable communities by assisting with research, analysis, and documentation related to crime prevention, criminal justice, and anti-corruption efforts. This role provides practical experience in international cooperation and program support within a dynamic regional context, aligning with the UN's broader objectives for peace and security.
Responsibilities
The intern will collect and compile information for analytical reports and programme materials. Key duties include conducting in-depth research on crime prevention, criminal justice, transnational organized crime, and anti-corruption. Responsibilities also involve preparing background documents, presentation slides, talking points, and speeches. The role includes developing briefing materials for stakeholders and drafting/reviewing administrative documents. Additionally, the intern will support the planning and logistics of workshops and events, draft reports and meeting minutes, assist with social media content and web stories, and maintain the office's document repository and calendar. A research project aligned with programme objectives may also be undertaken.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship's focus is necessary. Applicants must meet specific academic enrollment or completion criteria. Experience in administrative tasks, research, and working in a multicultural environment is desirable.
Skills
Demonstrable skills in analytical thinking, communication, and research. Strong interest in anti-corruption, security, peace, justice, and/or development. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work under pressure in an international setting. Ability to perform administrative tasks.
