Organizational Context
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva seeks interns for its Intergovernmental Outreach and Support Service (IOSS). This is an unpaid, full-time internship, either in-person or remote, focusing on enhancing cooperation and outreach with civil society organizations, parliamentarians, and member states.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support UNCTAD's efforts in strengthening working relations with civil society actors and member states within the intergovernmental machinery. The intern will assist in organizational and substantive aspects of outreach activities, contributing to UNCTAD's mandate of promoting trade and development. This role provides a valuable learning experience in international cooperation and intergovernmental affairs, offering exposure to diverse stakeholders and UNCTAD's operational functions.
Responsibilities
Key duties include assisting in the preparation and organization of UNCTAD meetings, briefings, and videoconferences related to civil society and government outreach. The intern will help draft communications with external partners, prepare outreach materials like flyers and emailings, and support the team's outreach initiatives. Responsibilities also involve updating databases and contact lists, attending meetings to take notes and prepare reports, and assisting with background materials for specific intergovernmental groups. Additionally, the intern will help coordinate administrative requirements for meetings and respond to delegate inquiries.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, applicants should possess relevant training, education, or coursework that can benefit the UNCTAD. Any prior work experience should be included in the application.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, basic IT security best practices, and strong communication skills are expected. The ability to draft communications, prepare reports, and manage databases is beneficial. Familiarity with intergovernmental processes and outreach activities is desirable.
