Associate Data Specialist
Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), part of the UN Secretariat's Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO), support countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs. This role is within the UN RCO in Thimphu, Bhutan, reporting to the Head of the RCO. The office supports the UN Development System's reform, focusing on data, digital, innovation, and a mission-driven culture.
Job Purpose
The Associate Data Analyst prepares analytical products to support informed decision-making for the Resident Coordinator, UN Country Team, and other UN leadership. This involves developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, and analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. The role requires collaboration with internal and external counterparts, including UN agencies, consultants, and NGOs, to exchange information and best practices. The position contributes to the UN's reform efforts by leveraging data and digital tools to accelerate the 2030 Agenda and SDGs, ensuring the Resident Coordinator System is optimally configured for these goals.
Responsibilities
Implement and maintain databases, data collection systems, and analytics to enhance statistical efficiency and quality. Analyze and interpret trends and patterns using statistical methods, identifying key features and variables. Acquire, clean, and manage data from various sources, implementing process improvements for data analytics tasks. Develop monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) products for UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks. Co-design digital tools and dashboards with national partners to track SDG progress. Create reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings effectively to management and stakeholders. Track progress on data initiatives and contribute to capacity-building activities for staff on data analytics and results-based management.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in data science and analytics, including statistics and predictive modeling, is required. Experience with UN planning and monitoring processes is also required. Experience with data quality assurance, validation, data storytelling, visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), and the data life cycle is desirable.
