Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development. The UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO) in Panama City works with 33 countries, focusing on minimizing the adverse effects of chemicals and waste. This internship supports communication and knowledge management for various projects within the Chemicals and Pollution Action Programme.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the communication and knowledge management efforts for UNEP's Chemicals and Pollution Action Programme in the Latin America and Caribbean region. The intern will assist in disseminating information, coordinating events, updating web content, and drafting reports for key initiatives like the Intergovernmental Network on Chemicals and Waste, the Network on Atmospheric Pollution, and working groups on plastics and dumpsites. The role contributes to raising awareness and facilitating knowledge sharing on critical environmental issues within the region, supporting the overall mandate of UNEP and the LAC Forum of Ministers of Environment.
Responsibilities
Support communication tasks for regional pollution networks, including coordinating and disseminating events like webinars and technical exchanges. Manage external communications for cooperation networks and related projects, updating web pages and drafting informative notes on activities. Assist in drafting, designing, and disseminating progress reports on work plans and programs. Contribute to knowledge management by compiling results from knowledge-sharing activities. Support the coordination and preparation of meetings, including developing presentation materials and taking minutes. Assist in developing public awareness materials on pollution issues and coordinate face-to-face events as needed. Undertake other tasks within the Chemicals and Pollution Programme as requested.
Work Experience
While not explicitly required, experience in social media for public awareness, developing public awareness materials, organizing and disseminating events (face-to-face and online), and skills in design and data visualization programs are considered assets. Knowledge of UN environmental issues in Latin America and the Caribbean is also beneficial.
