Environmental Affairs and Strategic Partnerships consultancy
Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) coordinates global and regional environmental policy. The UNEP New York Office represents UNEP at UN Headquarters, fostering partnerships and cooperation with North American stakeholders. This role operates remotely under the supervision of the Special Assistant to the ASG at the UNEP New York Office.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to strengthen the strategic partnership between UNEP and Canada. The role involves mapping Canada's international environmental priorities, identifying emerging opportunities and risks, and developing strategies to align Canadian and UNEP priorities. The consultant will facilitate enhanced cooperation, advise on environmental policy, and support resource mobilization. The ultimate goal is to deepen existing relationships and establish new strategic partnerships between UNEP and Canadian governmental and non-governmental entities, contributing to UNEP's program objectives and extrabudgetary resource growth.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include collaborating with UNEP to deepen strategic relationships with Canadian government institutions and stakeholders. This involves identifying opportunities for enhanced cooperation, such as joint initiatives and events, and providing strategic analysis on Canada's environmental, climate, biodiversity, pollution, and sustainable development priorities. The consultant will facilitate dialogue between UNEP and Canadian counterparts, support high-level meetings and outreach activities, and coordinate visits to Canada. Additionally, the role involves identifying and pursuing partnership development opportunities, contributing to resource mobilization by identifying funding prospects and supporting proposal development, and monitoring and reporting on Canada's environmental policy landscape.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in environmental matters, policy priorities (including climate change, biodiversity, pollution, sustainable development), fundraising, and partnership building is required. Experience with the Canadian federal government, particularly in environmental and multilateral affairs, is desirable.
