Organizational Context
The United Nations Secretariat, Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), specifically the Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD), aims to strengthen international cooperation for social development. This internship is situated within the Global Dialogue for Social Development Branch, reporting to its Chief, and contributes to the Branch's mandate concerning the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Job Purpose
This internship offers an opportunity to contribute to social development analysis and research within the UN Secretariat's Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The intern will support the Global Dialogue for Social Development Branch by conducting empirical research on trends and policy issues related to inclusive social development, the 2030 Agenda, and the Doha Political Declaration. Key contributions include drafting analytical documents, policy briefs, and background papers. The role also involves assisting in the planning and servicing of expert meetings, workshops, and intergovernmental processes, preparing meeting summaries, and supporting consultations with partners. This experience will provide valuable insight into international social development efforts and intergovernmental work.
Responsibilities
Conduct research and contribute to drafting written outputs, background papers, policy briefs, and analytical documents on inclusive social development issues, aligning with the 2030 Agenda and the Doha Political Declaration. Assist in the planning, organization, and servicing of technical and ad hoc expert group meetings, including drafting reports and preparing summaries. Support the organization and participation in working groups, meetings, workshops, and consultations with other agencies and partners on social and economic development matters. Provide assistance to intergovernmental processes related to social development by preparing inputs for reports, monitoring meetings, and preparing summary reports. Aid in organizing panels, round tables, and other meetings on social development issues for intergovernmental forums.
