Organizational Context
The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) provides retirement, death, disability, and related benefits to over 90,000 beneficiaries and 130,000 participants across 25 member organizations. With offices in New York, Geneva, Nairobi, and Bangkok, the Pension Administration comprises 282 staff. This role is within the Communication Team, supporting the Fund's overall communication strategy and ensuring clients receive clear information on pension matters.
Job Purpose
The Public Information Assistant supports the UNJSPF's communication strategy by creating key communication products, managing social media, and developing website content. This role involves researching and drafting text in multiple languages, monitoring communication channel performance using analytics, and staying updated on best practices. The assistant will also develop monthly and annual communication reports, create content for the intranet, manage the communications mailbox, and assist with presentations and data analysis. Collaboration with internal services like Information Management Systems and UNICC is crucial for website updates and automated translation services. The purpose is to ensure effective dissemination of information to participants and beneficiaries regarding their pension matters, participation, and financial entitlements.
Responsibilities
Assist in creating internal and external communication products through research and drafting of basic text in English, French, or Spanish. Support the development and implementation of the UNJSPF social media strategy and monitor social media outlets for relevant topics. Monitor website, intranet, and social media post success using analytics and identify new tools and best practices. Aid in developing the website’s automated translation service and layout updates in collaboration with relevant IT services. Develop monthly and annual communication reports detailing key data, metrics, and findings. Create content for the UNJSPF intranet, including staff interviews, meeting summaries, project updates, and social activities. Post news and update relevant web pages on the intranet. Manage the UNJSPF Communications mailbox according to standard operating procedures. Support the development of presentations and other communication materials for senior management. Ensure proper document management of the communication team’s archive. Assist with data collection, analysis, and preparation of presentations and reports for information sharing and decision-making. Help with visualizations and updating information materials like web pages or brochures. Perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public communication, international broadcasting, or a related area is required. This is reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level degree or higher. Experience developing graphic materials and visuals for digital platforms and publications, managing social media channels, and laying out publications in English and French is required. Proficiency with desk publishing software is desirable.
