Organizational Context
The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) provides support to various Haitian entities and international organizations, including the Gang Suppression Force, BINUH, Haitian National Police, and the Organization of American States. This Movement Control Assistant role is situated within the Office of the Chief Operations and Resource Management in Santo Domingo, reporting to the Associate Administrative Officer.
Job Purpose
The Movement Control Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting UNSOH's mandate by managing and facilitating the movement of passengers and cargo. This involves coordinating daily operations, ensuring adherence to safety and security regulations, and handling all necessary documentation for air and ground transportation. The position serves as a key liaison point at the Aeropuerto Internacional de Las Americas (AILA) and supports the MovCon and Logistics team, contributing directly to the efficient and safe execution of mission operations and logistical support for partner entities.
Responsibilities
Key duties include developing passenger and cargo load plans, coordinating daily operations of administrative and loading staff, and ensuring compliance with dangerous goods regulations. The role involves liaising with port and local authorities on travel and customs, assisting in the planning and execution of military and police movements, and preparing movement orders. Responsibilities also encompass receiving and registering cargo requests, completing manifests and waivers, arranging customs clearance, and informing consignees of deliveries. Additionally, the assistant will manage passenger and crew boarding/deplaning, check-in processes, baggage handling, tracking missing items, and maintaining unit files and administrative documentation.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in movement control, airport operations, passenger management, customer service, transport logistics, or administration is required. Experience within a UN common system field or similar international organization is desirable, as is proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
Skills
Professionalism, Planning and Organizing, Client Orientation, knowledge of movement control and aviation procedures, ability to use MS Excel and databases, attention to detail, and effective communication.
