MOVEMENT CONTROL ASSISTANT
Organizational Context
The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) provides support to various entities including the Gang Suppression Force, UN Integrated Office in Haiti, Haitian National Police, and Haitian Armed Forces. It also delivers technical assistance to the Organization of American States. This Movement Control Assistant role is situated within the Office of the Chief Operations and Resource Management in Santo Domingo, reporting to the Associate Administrative Officer.
Job Purpose
The Movement Control Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and safe movement of passengers and cargo for UNSOH operations. This involves managing requests for air and ground transportation, coordinating travel for military and civilian personnel, and overseeing all aspects of passenger and cargo handling. The position requires meticulous attention to detail in documentation, adherence to safety regulations, and effective liaison with various authorities to facilitate seamless logistical operations. The assistant will serve as a key point of contact at the airport and within the logistics team, contributing directly to the operational effectiveness of the mission by ensuring timely and secure transportation services.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and register air/ground transportation requests for passengers and cargo. Develop passenger and cargo load plans and prepare movement orders. Oversee cargo and passenger manifests, waivers, and related documentation, including customs clearance. Coordinate travel for civilians and military personnel, including VIPs. Ensure dangerous goods are transported according to international regulations. Liaise with port and local authorities on travel, immigration, and customs matters. Manage passenger and crew boarding/deplaning, adhering to safety procedures. Handle passenger check-in, baggage identification, weighing, and distribution of boarding passes. Coordinate with airfield security for baggage scanning and monitoring passenger areas. Assist with baggage handling, including retrieval, placement, and follow-up on misplaced items. Review and prioritize movement requests, recommend corrective actions, and resolve operational issues related to movements, customs, and schedules.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in movement control, airport operations, passenger management, transport logistics, or administration is required. Experience within the UN common system or a similar international organization is desirable. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) is also desirable.
