Organizational Context
The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) provides retirement, death, disability, and related benefits to UN staff and other member organizations. Administering benefits for over 90,000 beneficiaries globally, the Fund operates across New York, Geneva, Nairobi, and Bangkok. This role is within the Client Services Section of the Pension Administration in New York, reporting to the Chief of Client Services.
Job Purpose
This Benefits Assistant role supports the Client Services Section of the UNJSPF Pension Administration. The primary purpose is to provide essential information and advisory services to participants, retirees, beneficiaries, and member organization staff regarding participation, entitlements, and benefits. The incumbent will ensure accurate responses aligned with the Fund's Regulations and Rules and the Pension Adjustment System, conduct necessary research, and manage administrative procedures related to benefits and participation. This role contributes to the efficient and accurate delivery of pension services, ensuring clients receive timely and correct information and support for their benefit-related inquiries and administrative processes.
Responsibilities
Provide information and advice to participants, retirees, beneficiaries, and member organization staff on participation, entitlements, and benefits via in-person, phone, or written communication. Conduct research to ensure accurate responses compliant with UNJSPF Regulations, Rules, and the Pension Adjustment System. Route inquiries to appropriate parties and initiate administrative procedures for proof of residence and changes in country of residence. Advise relevant units on retiree and beneficiary status. Monitor and control Certificate of Entitlement verifications, releases, suspensions, and benefits. Initiate computer runs for benefit activation/termination and process/audit administrative actions for Fund participation. Run and audit benefit estimates and process applications for Emergency Fund assistance. Participate in standardizing procedures, preparing training materials, and delivering training. Assist with data collection, analysis, presentations, and updating information materials. Train junior staff and perform other duties as required.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in employee benefits administration or a related area is required. This is reduced to five years with a first-level university degree. Two years of client services experience is desirable. One year of data analytics experience and experience in a pension fund client servicing or entitlements processing role are also desirable.
