Youth Engagement and Gamification Consultant

Organizational Context

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. Its Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) in Rio de Janeiro focuses on activities in Brazil. The "Rio Inclusivo e Sustentável Project" aims to strengthen urban and climate resilience in the State of Rio de Janeiro by localizing the Sustainable Development Goals.

Job Purpose

This consultancy supports the "Youth gamification for environmental preservation and urban resilience" product within the "Rio Inclusivo e Sustentável Project." The role is to engage young people, particularly in public schools in Petrópolis, using gamification and educommunication. The purpose is to foster youth engagement in climate justice, sustainability, and the right to the city through creative, collaborative activities that build critical thinking and territorial awareness. The consultant will design, facilitate, and implement these gamified processes, ensuring alignment with project objectives and UN-Habitat's principles of inclusion, resilience, and sustainable urban development.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement the project's gamification methodology, including challenge structures and engagement mechanisms. Plan and facilitate workshops and educational activities for youth in schools and communities on urban/climate resilience and sustainability. Mobilize and engage youth, promoting leadership and participation. Contribute to pedagogical content and support materials, coordinating with the audiovisual team. Support event organization and prepare technical reports. Ensure all activities align with UN-Habitat principles of social inclusion, equity, participation, and resilience.

Work Experience

Requires a minimum of three years of experience in educational, social, or community-based projects in Brazil. Experience in facilitating workshops, participatory processes, or working with youth is essential. Experience with projects related to sustainability, climate justice, or territorial development, and with innovative methodologies like gamification or educommunication, is also required. Previous UN System experience is desirable.

Skills

Facilitation of participatory processes and youth engagement. Planning and delivery of educational activities using active learning methodologies. Excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing. Strong organizational skills, proactivity, and teamwork. Ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders. Fluency in Portuguese is required; working knowledge of English and/or Spanish is desirable.
