The International Trade Centre (ITC), established in 1964, is a joint agency of the UN and WTO focused on promoting sustainable trade and exports from developing countries. This role sits within the Women, Youth and Vulnerable Communities (WYVC) section of the Division of Sustainable and Inclusive Trade (DSIT).
Job Purpose
The Creative Industries Advisor will support the development of an institutional strategy for the creative industries sector. This role involves conducting rapid assessments of creative industry sectors and their trade potential for Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs). The advisor will analyze opportunities for MSMEs to capture value across various stages of the creative value chain, assess market opportunities, identify constraints, and map existing support structures. The ultimate purpose is to develop strategic recommendations and programmatic entry points for ITC to enhance value capture and trade competitiveness among creative MSMEs, contributing to job creation and economic development, particularly for youth and women.
Responsibilities
Conduct rapid assessments of creative industry sectors and their trade potential for MSMEs, analyzing market structures, actors, and value chains. Analyze opportunities for MSME value capture in production, commercialization, finance, distribution, export, licensing, and digital trade. Assess regional and international market opportunities, focusing on emerging trends and digital platforms. Identify constraints and bottlenecks limiting MSME participation and competitiveness. Map existing ecosystem support structures, policies, and partnerships. Develop a framework for prioritizing sectors and opportunities. Identify strategic interventions and partnership opportunities for ITC. Prepare analytical reports, presentations, and actionable recommendations. Present findings to stakeholders and integrate feedback. Ensure recommendations incorporate cross-cutting considerations like youth empowerment, women's participation, digitalization, sustainability, and inclusive trade.
Work Experience
Requires at least 7 years of professional experience in creative industries, international trade, MSME development, value chain analysis, or digital trade. Demonstrated experience in conducting sector/market assessments, analyzing MSME value capture, and mapping industry ecosystems is essential. Experience with creative sector businesses and in developing markets is highly desirable.
