Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator's Office (UN RCO) in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea supports the UN Resident Coordinator, who leads the UN Country Team. The RCO's key functions include strategic analysis, planning, and positioning of the UN Country Team. This internship is based in Bangkok, Thailand, offering a 5-month duration.
Job Purpose
This internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the economics and data management work of the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Bangkok. Interns will gain practical experience in how the UN system operates at the country level, supporting RCO activities and corporate reporting requirements. The role involves assisting the UN Country Team and RCO in achieving their annual monitoring and reporting objectives, offering valuable exposure to UN operations and development-related initiatives.
Responsibilities
Conduct independent research and provide inputs for reports and analyses, focusing on sustainable agricultural development, health, climate action, disaster risk management, and inclusion of youth, gender, and disability. Support the development and updating of databases and information management activities. Assist the UN Country Team and UN RCO in meeting annual monitoring and reporting requirements using the UNINFO platform. Attend relevant capacity development initiatives, training, and meetings, preparing briefing materials as needed. Undertake additional tasks as required by the RCO.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is essential. Familiarity with the UN system and its mandate is considered an asset, as is previous experience in the geopolitical and development context of North East Asia, particularly the Korean Peninsula.
Skills
Sound research, data analysis, and data management skills. Familiarity with sustainable development concepts in agriculture, health, and disaster risk reduction, as well as gender, youth, and disability inclusion. Excellent English drafting and writing abilities. Knowledge of the UN system and its mandate. Proficiency in standard software applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
