Associate Communications Officer
Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), led by an empowered UN Resident Coordinator, support countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs. This role is within the UN RCO in Conakry, Guinea, under the direct supervision of the Head of the RCO. The position supports the UN's reform efforts to deliver more effectively and efficiently towards the 2030 Agenda.
Job Purpose
The Associate Communications Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Conakry, Guinea. The purpose of this role is to contribute to the implementation of effective communications strategies that enhance awareness, engagement, and support for UN development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals. This involves developing compelling narratives, managing media relations, creating content across various platforms, and fostering strategic partnerships. The role contributes to building and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government officials, civil society, media, and UN agencies, to advance UN priorities and ensure effective communication of its work and impact.
Responsibilities
The Associate Communications Officer is responsible for contributing to media monitoring and analysis to inform communications strategy, including identifying reputational risks. They will assist in implementing communications strategies to drive engagement and measurable impact, and draft narratives and messaging for various UN initiatives across different platforms. Responsibilities include media mapping, fostering relationships with media outlets, developing media lines, and coordinating press conferences and events. The role involves creating compelling content optimized for target audiences, producing communications products like press releases and reports, and developing/implementing communications campaigns. Additionally, the officer will contribute to strategic communications partnerships, outreach, and advocacy, and assist in reporting and training related to strategic communications. Maintaining confidentiality and staying abreast of communication trends and technologies are also key duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in developing and implementing communications strategies is required. Demonstrated knowledge of strategic communications principles and practices is necessary. Experience in drafting messages for diverse audiences, developing creative content, utilizing digital media platforms, and conducting data collection and analysis is desirable.
