Job Purpose
This Associate Data Specialist role supports the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Maseru, Lesotho, by contributing to the development and implementation of databases, data collection systems, and data analytics. The purpose is to optimize statistical efficiency and quality, supporting the UN's development agenda and SDGs. The incumbent will interact with various UN entities, national institutions, and development partners, collaborating on data-driven insights and best practices. A key contribution is supporting inter-agency follow-up, tracking progress on the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, and preparing evidence for reviews, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of UN development coordination at the country level.
Responsibilities
The Associate Data Specialist will implement databases, data collection systems, and analytics to enhance statistical efficiency and quality. This includes identifying and interpreting trends using statistical methods, acquiring and cleaning data, and maintaining databases. The role involves contributing to monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) products for UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks, and co-designing digital tools with national partners to track SDG progress. Responsibilities also include developing reports and dashboards, tracking data initiatives, creating data visualizations, and assisting with project tasks, data collection, and initial analysis. The incumbent will gather business requirements, compile data insights, integrate monitoring milestones into data pipelines, and contribute to UNCT statistical capacity-building and training programs on data analytics and results-based management.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in translating business requirements into technical solutions is required. Experience in data analysis quality assurance and data validation is also required. Desirable experience includes data storytelling, visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, R), data lifecycle management, project management, and developing training programs.
