DRS Intern
Organizational Context
The Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction division of ESCAP in Bangkok works to strengthen ICT connectivity and enhance regional cooperation for disaster risk reduction and management. This internship is within the Disaster Risk Reduction Section (DRS), contributing to inclusive and sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific.
Job Purpose
This internship within the Disaster Risk Reduction Section (DRS) of ESCAP in Bangkok aims to support the division's mandate of strengthening ICT connectivity and enhancing regional cooperation for disaster risk reduction and management. The intern will contribute to analyzing the socio-economic impacts of disasters, assist in organizing international conferences and meetings, and undertake other tasks as assigned. This role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in disaster risk reduction and sustainable development within a UN framework, contributing to the division's ongoing projects and initiatives.
Responsibilities
The intern will contribute to quantitative and qualitative analysis of the socio-economic impacts of disasters. Responsibilities include assisting in the organization of international conferences and meetings, ensuring smooth logistical and administrative support. The intern will also carry out other ad hoc tasks as required by the Disaster Risk Reduction Section and the broader Division. This role involves working in-person, five days a week, under the supervision of the Chief of the Disaster Risk Reduction Section and relevant project officers, contributing to the division's operational needs and project execution.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for this United Nations Internship Programme. The focus is on academic enrollment or completion of a relevant university degree program.
Skills
Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage. Skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis, and event organization are beneficial.
