Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), part of the UN Secretariat's Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO), support countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs. This role is within the UN RCO in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, reporting to the Development Coordination Officer. The office is recalibrated to support the UN 2.0 shift, focusing on data, digital, innovation, and a mission-driven culture.
Job Purpose
The Associate Data Analyst supports the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Bissau by developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, and analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. This role involves interacting with UN entities, national institutions, and development partners to gather and analyze data, track progress on the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) indicators, and prepare evidence for reviews. The incumbent will contribute to identifying trends, improving data processes, developing reports and dashboards, and building data analytics capacity within the office, aligning with the UN 2.0 shift towards data-driven approaches.
Responsibilities
Implement and maintain databases, data collection systems, and data analytics strategies to enhance statistical efficiency and quality. Analyze and interpret trends using statistical methods, identifying key features and variables in data. Acquire, clean, and manage data from various sources, implementing process improvements for data analytics tasks. Develop reports, dashboards, and data visualization outputs to support management decision-making and communication. Track and report on data initiatives, gather business requirements, and compile data insights for stakeholder communications. Stay updated on data analytics best practices and technologies. Support data preparation for model assessments and contribute to building data analytics capacity through training and workshops. Assist with project tasks, data collection, preliminary analysis, and routine reporting.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in translating business requirements into technical solutions is required. Experience in data quality assurance, data validation, and developing/executing training programs is also required. Experience with data storytelling, visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, R), and the data life cycle is desirable.
