Organizational Context
The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) provides retirement, death, and disability benefits to UN staff and other member organizations. Administering benefits for over 90,000 beneficiaries globally, UNJSPF has offices in New York, Geneva, Nairobi, and Bangkok. This role is within the Accounts Section of the Pension Administration in New York, reporting to the Accountant.
Job Purpose
The Accounting Assistant supports the Accounts Section of the UNJSPF Pension Administration. This role involves performing a variety of office support and administrative functions, including drafting correspondence to member organizations, participants, and beneficiaries. The assistant will monitor and process pension contribution remittances using the Integrated Pension Administration System (IPAS), assist with reporting, and generate various IPAS reports. Key contributions include ensuring the accuracy of financial data, assisting with the reconciliation of accounting transactions and bank accounts across different currencies, and managing and consolidating financial documents and data presentations.
Responsibilities
The Accounting Assistant performs diverse office support and administrative functions. This includes drafting and responding to correspondence with UNJSPF member organizations, participants, and beneficiaries. The role involves monitoring, examining, and processing pension contribution remittances and reporting using the Integrated Pension Administration System (IPAS), including calculating, inputting, and verifying contributions. The assistant will generate IPAS reports, assist in recording, analyzing, and reconciling accounting transactions and bank accounts in various currencies. Responsibilities also include managing and consolidating large documents and financial tables, proofreading and editing texts for accuracy, maintaining files and databases, and assisting with data collection, analysis, and presentation.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or a related area is required. This is reduced to one year for candidates with a first-level university degree. Experience within the UN System or a similar international organization is desirable, as is experience in data analytics.
Skills
Proficiency in accounting principles and practices; ability to maintain accurate records, interpret and analyze data, and resolve discrepancies using MS Excel; strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively and efficiently; attention to detail; professionalism; teamwork; and accountability.
