Job Purpose
This internship supports the substantive work of the Justice and Corrections Service (JCS), focusing on justice and corrections within UN peace operations. The role contributes to areas such as criminal accountability, gender parity, and prison training. The intern will assist in implementing projects, coordinating meetings, developing policy and guidance, and conducting research on rule of law reforms. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in international peacebuilding and justice sector support within a global organization, contributing to the UN's mandate of promoting peace and security.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Justice and Corrections Service (JCS) by assisting in the implementation of justice and corrections projects, which includes conducting research, analysis, and drafting case studies and background papers. Responsibilities also involve administrative coordination for projects and providing support for meetings with internal and external partners and Member States. The role includes assisting in policy and guidance development through research on legal, judicial, and correctional reform issues. Additionally, the intern will conduct research and analysis on current developments related to JCS work, support desk officers in specific peace operations, and attend relevant meetings. Routine tasks include note-taking, writing summaries, and preparing public information materials.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing a relevant degree and demonstrate good knowledge of standard software applications. A field of study closely related to justice, corrections, or rule of law is required.
Skills
Research and analysis, drafting case studies and background papers, administrative coordination, meeting support, policy and guidance development, public information material preparation, note-taking, and proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Teams. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
