The Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM) within the UN Secretariat's Department of Operational Support (DOS) manages a broad scope of services including supply chain planning, logistics, procurement, and aviation safety. Job Purpose
This internship in Data Research within the Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM) aims to provide interns with hands-on experience in data analysis and its application to organizational challenges. Interns will work as integral team members, contributing to projects that enhance OSCM's operations. The role involves gathering and analyzing data, developing reports and visualizations, and supporting data-driven decision-making. This position offers a valuable learning opportunity about the United Nations' supply chain functions and the broader UN system, contributing to the development and delivery of data science solutions.
Responsibilities
The intern will gather and analyze data from diverse sources, performing statistical and mathematical programming to develop reports and visual representations. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining databases, providing technical assistance, and advising on appropriate statistical methodologies. The role involves using statistical software to interpret results and designing study activities for process improvements. Additionally, the intern will support team members with data cleaning, maintain databases/data systems, and create simple data visualizations. Translating data findings into written reports or presentations for management is key. The intern will also identify and analyze trends using basic machine learning and statistical methods, contributing to innovative approaches and ensuring data quality for complex analyses.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is required for this internship. However, relevant coursework and skills in areas such as Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Visualization, or Analytics are beneficial. Any prior internship experience, particularly within the UN system, should be highlighted.
Skills
Data analysis, statistical and mathematical programming, report development, data visualization, database management, data cleaning, trend identification, machine learning techniques, evidence-based reasoning, data science solutions. Proficiency in tools such as Excel, PowerPivot, PowerPoint, Microsoft SQL, PowerBI, SAP Business Objects, or Tableau is desirable.
