Associate Data Specialist
Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the UN Secretariat's Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO), support countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs. This role is within the UN RCO in Ankara, Türkiye, reporting to the Head of the Office, and contributes to the UN 2.0 shift focused on data, digital, and innovation.
Job Purpose
The Associate Data Specialist supports the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Ankara, Türkiye, by developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, and data analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. This role involves collaborating with internal and external counterparts to exchange information and best practices, contributing to the UN's data-driven approach to achieving development priorities and the SDGs. The position plays a key part in enhancing data capabilities within the UN Country Team and supporting the integration of monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
Responsibilities
Implement and maintain databases, data collection systems, and data analytics strategies to enhance statistical efficiency and quality. Analyze and interpret trends and patterns using statistical methods, identifying key features and variables in data. Acquire, clean, and manage data from various sources, and implement process improvements for data analytics tasks. Gather business requirements to identify pain points and support data-driven analysis. Integrate monitoring milestones and indicators into data pipelines. Assist in mapping and sequencing technical assistance for UNCT statistical capacity-building. Stay updated on data analytics best practices and technologies. Support the design and development of data science products using advanced analytical methods. Contribute to monitoring model performance and data accuracy. Prepare training materials and assist in delivering training on data science tools and results-based management. Perform logistical and preparatory tasks for meetings and inter-agency activities.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in data analysis, data management, or a related field is required. Experience in data quality assurance, the data lifecycle (collection, wrangling, analysis, visualization, reporting), and programming languages like Python, R, or SQL is desirable.
