Job Purpose
This consultancy role supports the UN Decade SIDS Restoration Flagship in Saint Lucia, focusing on enhancing ecosystem resilience and promoting sustainable livelihoods. The consultant will provide technical expertise to Component 2, which aims to strengthen local capacities for restoration activities and inform national policy. This involves translating priorities into a costed workplan, supporting implementation, and ensuring an integrated approach to ecosystem restoration and sustainable blue economy development. The role also bridges national priorities with Component 3, identifying investment opportunities and fostering partnerships to advance restoration efforts in Small Island Developing States.
Responsibilities
Develop and validate a costed, results-oriented Component 2 workplan for the SIDS Restoration Flagship in Saint Lucia, ensuring alignment with national priorities and an integrated ecosystem restoration approach. Provide technical support for the implementation of Component 2 activities, including preparing terms of reference, scopes of work, and identifying partners. Map and coordinate with relevant programmes and initiatives to identify opportunities for complementarity and joint implementation. Support the national uptake and operationalization of the Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring (FERM). Identify and assess potential restoration-linked sustainable blue economy opportunities for development, investment, and scaling through Component 3, in collaboration with UN agencies and national stakeholders.
Work Experience
Requires 7 years of experience in designing sustainable blue economy strategy/policy, marine resource management, integrated coastal zone management, catchment management, or marine spatial planning. Experience working in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), preferably in the Caribbean, is required. Experience with international policy frameworks and SDGs, particularly SDG 14, is necessary.
