Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide critical legal and regulatory inputs to support ESCWA's XB project, specifically focusing on competition-based market studies and business regulations within the Western Asia region. The role will enhance the legal analysis of project outputs, improve their clarity and policy relevance, and contribute to recommendations for better competition conditions and institutional arrangements. The consultant will primarily support the Oman building materials market study, ensuring robust legal and regulatory assessments are conducted to address market distortions and promote fair competition.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide legal and regulatory inputs for ESCWA's XB project, focusing on competition-based market studies, business regulations, and market functioning. Key duties include strengthening legal analysis, enhancing the clarity and policy relevance of related outputs, and supporting recommendations to improve competition conditions and institutional arrangements. The role involves conducting legal assessments, analyzing competition law and policy, reviewing regulatory and institutional frameworks, and identifying legal or procedural constraints affecting market competition, particularly within the Oman building materials sector. Support may also extend to other competition policy activities within the section as needed.
Work Experience
A minimum of 4 years of experience in law, economics, business, or a related field is required. Experience in contributing to analytical papers is essential. Understanding of legal frameworks in business environments and previous experience with international organizations are desirable.
