The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO) are integral to the UN's global reform, supporting countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs. This role is within the UN RCO in Juba, South Sudan, reporting to the Head of the RCO. The position supports the UN's mission to deliver effectively and efficiently, aligning with the UN 2.0 shift.
Job Purpose
The Associate Communications Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Juba, South Sudan. This position contributes to the effective implementation of communications strategies aimed at raising awareness, driving engagement, and building support for UN priorities and the SDGs. The role involves developing compelling narratives, creating content for various platforms, managing media relations, and fostering strategic partnerships. By monitoring media, analyzing public narratives, and reporting on communication effectiveness, the officer ensures that UN messaging is impactful and reaches target audiences, ultimately advancing the UN's development agenda.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include gathering insights from media monitoring to inform communication strategies, implementing strategies to raise awareness and engagement, and drafting narratives and messaging for diverse audiences. The role involves media mapping, fostering relationships with media outlets, and developing media lines, especially for crisis situations. It also includes planning and coordinating press conferences and media events, creating optimized content for various platforms, and producing communications products like press releases and reports. Furthermore, the officer will develop and implement communication campaigns, coordinate strategic partnerships, and contribute to outreach and advocacy efforts. This includes creating content for radio and podcasts, assisting with reporting, staying updated on communication trends, and maintaining confidentiality and data integrity.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in developing and implementing communication strategies is required. Demonstrated knowledge of strategic communication principles and practices is essential. Experience in developing creative content, understanding digital media platforms, conducting research and data analysis, and tailoring messages for diverse audiences are desirable.
