Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a strategic partnership between the UN and over 500 financial institutions. It shapes the global sustainable finance agenda, setting standards and growing a network of leading institutions. This role contributes to the sustainable finance hub for Latin America and the Caribbean, strengthening the regional network and promoting sustainability integration within financial markets.
Job Purpose
This role serves to lead the UNEP FI Latin America and Caribbean network, driving the integration of sustainability into financial market practices. The purpose is to strengthen the regional network, support member institutions in implementing global principles like PRB and PSI, and promote sustainable finance aligned with the Paris Agreement and SDGs. The role also involves contributing to the development of the Brazilian taxonomy, fostering outreach, and ensuring UN core values are embedded in all activities. Ultimately, it aims to catalyze institutional and system change towards sustainable finance across the region.
Responsibilities
Lead the UNEP FI Latin America and Caribbean network, developing and executing a regional workplan aligned with UNEP FI strategy. Engage with financial institutions to promote Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) and Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI), and support capacity-building activities. Organize regional events, including advisory body meetings and roundtables, and collaborate with UNEP Regional Offices and other UN agencies. Support the development and piloting of the Brazilian taxonomy, engaging with industry associations, financial institutions, and government authorities. Monitor progress, manage administrative processes, and ensure communications reflect UN core values. Support implementation of donor-funded projects and contribute to the UNEP FI Social Action Plan.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of experience in international organizations, the financial services sector, private sector, or NGOs is required, focusing on the intersection of sustainable development and finance. Experience in a client-facing role within financial services or sustainability consulting is considered an asset.
Skills
Project development and planning; coordination, organization, and planning skills; ability to work under pressure; adaptability; knowledge of the banking sector or sustainable finance; fluency in English and Portuguese; knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
