The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is implementing a project to improve mapping and monitoring of solar energy access. This role supports enhancing capacities of government officials and policymakers in member states through digital and geospatial tools for data analysis and evidence-based policymaking.
Job Purpose
The GIS and Renewable Energy Data Analyst will review and improve existing solar photovoltaic (PV) datasets for project countries, integrating socio-economic GIS layers. The role involves applying statistical analysis to enhance data accuracy and reliability. Key contributions include developing geospatial analytical products like maps and dashboards, and providing inputs for data processing, validation, and GIS workflows. The analyst will also produce a final technical report detailing methodology, findings, and recommendations, ultimately strengthening data-driven analysis for climate action and socio-economic resilience in ESCWA member states.
Responsibilities
Review and assess existing geospatial datasets of solar PV systems in specified countries to identify inconsistencies, gaps, duplicates, and quality issues. Conduct a comprehensive evaluation of data quality, completeness, spatial accuracy, attribute consistency, metadata, and reliability. Apply statistical analysis methods to improve the accuracy and reliability of solar PV datasets. Integrate additional socio-economic GIS layers into existing datasets. Develop geospatial analytical products, including thematic maps, statistical summaries, dashboards, and spatial analyses. Provide inputs for the existing toolkit and platform, covering data processing, validation methodologies, statistical procedures, and GIS workflows. Prepare a comprehensive final technical report and presentation summarizing the methodology, dataset improvements, analytical findings, limitations, and recommendations for future updates.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in data analytics related to energy or renewable energy is required. Demonstrated professional experience working with energy datasets is also required. Experience with GIS and statistical analysis is implied by the role's nature.
