Organizational Context
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is the largest United Nations operation in the Middle East, providing essential services to Palestine refugees. The Supply Chain Department is undergoing significant enhancements to its processes, governance, and digital solutions to improve efficiency and service delivery across procurement, logistics, inventory, and fleet management. This internship program offers practical experience within this dynamic environment.
Job Purpose
This internship program aims to provide students and recent graduates with invaluable practical experience within a United Nations humanitarian context, specifically within the UNRWA Supply Chain Department. Interns will have the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge to real-world assignments, gaining exposure to critical supply chain functions such as procurement, logistics, inventory management, and fleet operations. The program is designed to foster the development of professional, analytical, and communication skills, while offering insights into business processes, data management, systems, governance, and continuous improvement initiatives. Interns will contribute to projects supporting business improvement, digital transformation, and operational excellence under the guidance of experienced staff, without undertaking managerial responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of a supervisor, interns will contribute to various supply chain projects. Key duties may include assisting with research, data collection, and analysis for assigned projects. Interns will review relevant documents, help document existing business processes and workflows, and support the preparation and updating of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidance materials. They will also assist with data analysis, reporting, and the creation of dashboards, identifying process gaps and improvement opportunities. Research and benchmarking on best practices will be conducted, and interns will help prepare presentations and project documentation. Support may also be provided for testing or developing digital tools, forms, or automation concepts. Interns will participate in relevant meetings and maintain organized records of their work, presenting findings to their supervisor.
Work Experience
This internship is designed for students and recent graduates. While no specific prior work experience is mandated, a strong foundation in academic knowledge relevant to supply chain functions is expected. Practical experience will be gained through the internship itself, with assignments tailored to the intern's level of study and background.
