Organizational Context
The United Nations Secretariat, Department of Global Communications, seeks an intern for the UN Photo Unit in New York. This is a full-time, in-person, unpaid internship for a duration of 4 to 6 months. The role supports the UN's visual communication efforts by covering meetings and managing photographic archives.
Job Purpose
The Photo Intern will support the UN Photo Unit by contributing to daily coverage of UN meetings and performing digital retouching of current and archival images. A key aspect of the role involves learning to use a Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform to upload, archive, and add metadata to photographs for the UN Photo website. The intern will also assist with basic captioning and may support social media activities and other related tasks, gaining practical experience in photojournalism and digital asset management within an international organization.
Responsibilities
Contribute to daily coverage of United Nations meetings and events through photography. Perform digital retouching of current and archival photographs. Caption current photographic coverage accurately. Learn and utilize a DAM platform (Orange Logic) for uploading, archiving, and embedding metadata into images for the UN Photo website. Assist with social media accounts and other related tasks as assigned. Ensure adherence to UN Photo Unit standards and guidelines throughout all activities.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants should possess good knowledge of standard software applications like MS Word, PowerPoint, and Teams. Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software is necessary. Experience or demonstrated interest in photography, digital asset management, or social media is beneficial.
