Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO) operate under the UN Secretariat's global reform to effectively achieve the 2030 Agenda and SDGs. Empowered UN Resident Coordinators lead RCOs, supporting countries in development priorities. This role is within the UN RCO in Kabul, Afghanistan, supervised by the Head of the Office, contributing to the UN 2.0 shift.
Job Purpose
The Driver is responsible for safely transporting authorized personnel and cargo, including specialized hazardous goods if applicable. This role involves making regular deliveries of documents and parcels between UN offices and other institutions, and facilitating customs and immigration for official personnel at the airport. The incumbent will also perform minor purchases, collect urgent items from local suppliers, and manage customs formalities. Additionally, the driver will ensure the assigned vehicle is maintained, clean, and logs all trip details, mileage, and expenses. The position requires applying good judgment, assisting with data collection and reporting, and performing other assigned duties to support the UN's mission.
Responsibilities
Safely operate vehicles for personnel and cargo transport, including specialized hazardous goods. Conduct regular deliveries of parcels and documents between UN offices and external institutions like ministries and embassies. Perform minor purchases and collect urgent items from local suppliers, managing customs regulations and payments. Facilitate airport arrivals for official personnel, assisting with immigration and customs. Maintain assigned vehicles through daily checks, minor repairs, and ensuring cleanliness. Accurately log all trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance. Ensure adherence to rules and regulations in case of accidents. Apply good judgment in all assignments. Assist with data collection, analysis, and report preparation. Support the updating of information materials. Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive, responsible experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. Experience driving various vehicle types, including vans and motorized vehicles, is necessary. Experience with the United Nations or other international organizations is desirable.
