Organizational Context

The United Nations Secretariat's Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) is driving the digital transformation of the organization. The Enterprise Solutions Service (OICT/ESS), hosted by the UN Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre in Deqing, China, develops and supports enterprise solutions. This role is within OICT/ESS.

Job Purpose

This role is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of new web applications and services, particularly those with Geospatial and/or AI components, adhering to UN standards. The purpose is to contribute technical expertise to enhance solution design, ensure quality, and support the UN's digital transformation. The role involves creating technical and user documentation, providing third-level application support, managing version control, and troubleshooting deployed applications to ensure reliable and innovative technology solutions for the UN.

Responsibilities

Participate in the full lifecycle development of new applications, including programming, testing, debugging, and implementation, with a focus on Geospatial and/or AI components using Java and React. Design and develop web applications and services, contributing technical expertise to requirements analysis and solution design. Prepare comprehensive technical and user documentation, training materials, and conduct technical presentations. Provide third-level application support, including version management and troubleshooting for deployed applications. Manage version control using systems like Git and perform ongoing reviews with users and developers. Stay updated on industry developments, conduct benchmarking, and propose new tools and libraries.

Work Experience

A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience is required in building web applications with React and Java, using JavaScript/TypeScript, and using Java. Additionally, 2+ years of experience with SQL and REST APIs is necessary. Experience with Azure Functions, AI, and GIS is desirable.
