Job Purpose
The Associate Data Specialist supports the UN RCO in Dakar by developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, and analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. This involves collaborating with internal and external counterparts to exchange information and best practices. The role contributes to evidence-based decision-making for the UN Country Team (UNCT) by providing data analysis, reporting, and insights, aligning with the UN 2.0 agenda and supporting the acceleration of the 2030 Agenda and SDGs. The position aims to enhance the RCO's analytical function and promote a data-driven culture.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, and analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. Identify and analyze trends using statistical methods. Acquire, clean, and maintain data systems, ensuring data integrity. Develop reports, dashboards, and tools for evidence-based decision-making. Document methodologies and establish data standards. Contribute to country analysis, UN system-wide strategies, and performance monitoring. Design process improvements for data delivery and infrastructure. Collaborate with data engineers and scientists to enhance data flows and implement UN 2.0 initiatives. Create data visualizations and coordinate annual results reports. Build capacity on data analytics for staff and partners. Serve as a resource person and mentor on data analytics, promoting a data-driven culture and coordinating interagency groups.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in translating business requirements into technical solutions is required. Experience in data quality assurance and data validation is also required. Experience with data storytelling and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, R) and one year in data analytics are desirable.
