Organizational Context
The International Trade Centre (ITC) is a joint agency of UNCTAD and WTO, providing technical assistance to developing economies. It focuses on trade as an engine for sustainable growth and employment, particularly for MSMEs, women, and youth. The role sits within the Trade Law and Business Environment division, supporting initiatives to improve regulatory frameworks and competitiveness.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the implementation of activities focused on enhancing small and medium enterprises' internationalization capabilities. The intern will assist in developing tools and solutions, and provide decision-makers with analysis on trade treaties and performance indicators. A key focus will be on the legal aspects of trade across all economic sectors and the application of advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data mining to improve trade law and business environments. The role contributes to improving regulatory frameworks and fostering sustainable development through trade.
Responsibilities
The intern will conduct research and analysis on strategic legal and regulatory reforms at national, regional, and international levels to improve the efficiency and reduce the costs of doing business. Responsibilities include assisting in refining methodologies for analyzing legal instruments and using AI for treaty assessment. The intern will help define and test AI-based models for trade treaties and law-making, including research, drafting provisions, and identifying recommendations. Additionally, the role involves assisting in developing AI models for commercial contract analysis and automation, managing model provisions, and creating contract automation guidelines. The intern will also support the development of a global model contracts database and assist in refining AI methodologies for analyzing legal instruments by category and sector.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is explicitly required for this internship. However, familiarity with economic and law indicators, results-based management, project monitoring, and evaluation would be considered an asset. Practical experience or exposure to trade and development issues is also beneficial.
