Associate Data Specialist
Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat's Department of Global Communications (DGC) aims to inform the world of the efforts of the United Nations. The Resident Coordinator System (RCS) reform, launched in 2019, enhances the UN's development role for the 2030 Agenda. The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCOs) support countries in achieving SDGs. This Associate Data Specialist role is based at the UN RCO in Libreville, Gabon, reporting to the Head of the RCO.
Job Purpose
The Associate Data Specialist will support the UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in Libreville, Gabon, by developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, and analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. This role contributes to evidence-based decision-making by identifying trends, analyzing data from various sources, and maintaining data integrity. The specialist will create reports and dashboards for management, document methodologies, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to share best practices. The position is crucial for enhancing the RCO's analytical function, supporting the acceleration of the 2030 Agenda, and fostering a data-driven culture within the UN system.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, and analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. Identify and analyze trends and patterns using statistical methods on structured and unstructured data. Acquire, clean, and maintain databases and data systems, ensuring data integrity and quality assurance. Develop reports, dashboards, and tools to summarize findings for management, supporting evidence-based decision-making. Document methodologies and establish data practices for staff. Design and implement process improvements, including automation and architecture optimization. Collaborate with data engineers and scientists to enhance data flows and quality. Contribute to data visualization outputs and prepare datasets for analysis. Build staff and partner capacity on data analytics through training and workshops. Serve as a resource person and mentor on data analytics within the RCO.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in translating business requirements into technical solutions is required. Demonstrated experience in data analysis quality assurance and data validation is also required. Experience with data storytelling and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and in data analytics is desirable.
