Intern - Biodiversity Finance
Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development within the UN system. UNEP supports countries in implementing biodiversity commitments. This role supports the Biodiversity Finance Working Group, addressing the significant global biodiversity finance gap by developing strategies to mobilize and deploy finance.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP) efforts in addressing the global biodiversity finance gap. The intern will work with the Biodiversity Finance Working Group to research, analyze, and disseminate information on nature and finance-related themes. The role contributes to developing strategies for mobilizing and deploying finance to support global and national biodiversity objectives. The intern will gain practical experience in research, analysis, communication, and coordination within an international environmental organization, contributing to UNEP's mandate as an advocate for the global environment and a key player in biodiversity commitments.
Responsibilities
The intern will conduct methodological research and analysis on nature and finance-related themes, focusing on metrics, indicators, and data. Responsibilities include monitoring academic publications, summarizing key findings for the Biodiversity Finance Working Group, and assisting the Task Manager in drafting presentations, briefing notes, and speaking points. The role also involves providing coordination, administrative, and communication support for the working group's operations, such as scheduling meetings, managing documentation, and maintaining the intranet page. Additionally, the intern will liaise with relevant partners and attend relevant meetings, trainings, and conferences.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, academic or practical experience in data compilation, data analysis, data dissemination, visualization, or mapping of numeric analysis is desirable. Experience with AI tools or technologies and conducting research or writing reports on emerging technologies, digital trends, or AI-related topics is also desirable.
