Organizational Context
The Statistics Assistant position is within the Statistics Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), a regional commission of the United Nations. ECLAC contributes to the economic and social development of the region through policy design, monitoring, evaluation, and advisory services. This role reports to the Chief of the Statistical Innovation and Dissemination Unit.
Job Purpose
The Statistics Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Statistical Innovation and Dissemination Unit by compiling, processing, and manipulating diverse datasets. This involves ensuring the accuracy and validity of statistical material, updating series, and preparing data for publication. The role contributes to effective data management and presentation by creating charts, graphs, and interactive dashboards. Additionally, the assistant responds to data-related requests, maintains web pages, and supports the preparation of data presentations and reports, thereby facilitating informed decision-making and knowledge sharing within the organization.
Responsibilities
The Statistics Assistant is responsible for compiling, processing, and manipulating data from various sources, ensuring the accuracy and validity of statistical material through careful examination and appropriate adjustments. Duties include updating statistical series, applying new data, entering survey information, and preparing data for publication. The role involves creating charts, graphs, and interactive dashboards for reporting and presentation, as well as assisting with graphical components for web applications. The assistant will also respond to internal and external data requests, prepare datasets, maintain web pages, and support data analysis and the preparation of presentations and reports for information sharing and decision-making.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of experience in statistics, finance, accounting, or a related field is required. This requirement is reduced to five years for candidates holding a first-level university degree or higher. One year or more of experience in data analytics is desirable.
