Job Purpose
This role serves to provide crucial policy and technical advice to Fiji's Department of Climate Change, supporting the nation's super pollutant agenda. The consultant will ensure timely completion of relevant projects, align activities with government priorities, and facilitate Fiji's engagement on super pollutant issues regionally and internationally. A key objective is to assist in developing proposals for climate finance to support mitigation efforts. Ultimately, the consultancy aims to significantly increase Fiji's capacity in super pollutant planning, mitigation, and coordination, leading to enhanced national policies, strategies, and improved reporting mechanisms.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide policy and technical advice on mitigation strategies and their implementation, collaborating with government bodies and development partners. Responsibilities include assisting in proposal development for climate finance, coordinating super pollutant mitigation activities across sectors, and ensuring projects align with national priorities. The role involves identifying implementation gaps and preparing a mitigation dossier for international discussions. Additionally, the consultant will support the integration of short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP) mitigation into Fiji's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and policy frameworks, such as the Climate Change Act 2021. Collaboration with CCAC departments and identifying new engagement opportunities are also key duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in environmental management/science, climate change, economics, health, project management, finance, or administration is required. Demonstrated ability to provide technical assistance to governments and stakeholders, and experience working effectively with diverse stakeholder groups, including national governments, are essential.
Skills
Excellent communication skills (written and oral presentations), ability to provide technical assistance to governments and stakeholders, ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholder groups, knowledge of national policies in climate change mitigation and air pollution, and experience working on climate change mitigation are required. Desirable skills include proficiency with advanced Excel formulas.
