Job Purpose
The Local Mobiliser will support the implementation of the Periferia Viva Program in Santo André, São Paulo, and its associated social work activities. This role is crucial for fostering community engagement and participation in urban development projects aimed at improving living conditions in underserved areas. The mobiliser will act as a liaison between the community and UN-Habitat, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. The purpose is to facilitate socio-territorial transformation by promoting community involvement in infrastructure improvements and public space requalification, ultimately contributing to the realization of the right to adequate housing and strengthening grassroots initiatives within peripheral territories.
Responsibilities
The Local Mobiliser is responsible for promoting community participation and engagement in project activities. This includes organizing and facilitating meetings, workshops, and assemblies to foster social participation. The role involves clearly communicating project information to the community, ensuring awareness of activities, and encouraging active involvement in decision-making and project implementation to strengthen a sense of belonging. The mobiliser will publicize the program within communities, attend project and local meetings as required, and ensure technical activities align with UN-Habitat's quality expectations. Additionally, the role includes elaborating and delivering monthly activity reports and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor, ensuring all activities adhere to UN-Habitat standards and security protocols.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of experience in social mobilization, social work in urban communities or slums, or community organization is required. Previous experience working with the United Nations is desirable.
Skills
Good computer skills (Windows, Office packages, web search engines), professionalism, planning and organization, communication (written and verbal), teamwork, leadership, conflict management, consensus facilitation, ability to work in multicultural environments, and knowledge of UN-Habitat processes and procedures.
