Associate Data Specialist
Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the UN Secretariat's Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO), support countries in achieving development priorities and SDGs. This role is within the UN RCO in Mexico City, contributing to the UN 2.0 shift focused on data, digital, innovation, and strategic foresight.
Job Purpose
The Associate Data Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, and data analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality. This role supports the UN's reform efforts by analyzing trends, identifying patterns, and improving data processes. The specialist will contribute to reports, dashboards, and data visualization to inform management decisions and communicate findings. They will also gather business requirements, assist with data collection and analysis for projects, and help build data analytics capacity within the organization. The position aims to enhance data-driven decision-making and support the acceleration of the 2030 Agenda.
Responsibilities
Implement and maintain databases, data collection systems, and data analytics strategies to enhance statistical efficiency and quality. Analyze and interpret trends and patterns using statistical methods to identify key variables in data. Acquire, clean, and manage data from various sources, and implement process improvements for data analytics tasks. Develop reports, dashboards, and basic data visualizations to effectively communicate findings and support decision-making. Track and report on data initiatives, gather business requirements, and assist with project-related data collection and analysis. Collaborate with internal and external counterparts to share information and best practices, and contribute to building data analytics capacity through training and workshops.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in research, data analysis, knowledge management, or project management within development cooperation is required. Desirable experience includes data quality assurance, data validation, proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), understanding the data lifecycle, project management skills, and familiarity with UN planning processes.
