Job Purpose
This role supports the Africa and Middle East Regional Lead in implementing UNEP FI’s strategy to mobilize sustainable finance across the region. The purpose is to engage financial institutions, particularly banks and insurers, to adopt principles for responsible banking and sustainable insurance. The position contributes to building capacity, raising awareness, and fostering partnerships to accelerate the adoption of sustainable finance practices, aligning the financial industry with global goals like the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals. The role aims to broaden outreach and engagement within the UN system and with external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include supporting the Africa and Middle East Regional Lead in coordinating regional activities, developing and implementing outreach plans, and contributing to the regional work program aligned with UNEP FI’s global objectives. This involves identifying key markets and activities for mobilizing sustainable finance, with a focus on Francophone Africa. The role entails maintaining member and stakeholder information, facilitating relationships with UNEP FI members, and increasing banking and insurance membership. It also includes managing communications with members, updating the regional website, and supporting the adoption and implementation of the Principles for Responsible Banking and Principles for Sustainable Insurance through various engagement channels. Additionally, the role supports the organization of regional events and contributes to fundraising efforts.
Work Experience
At least two years of experience working with the financial services sector and/or sustainable finance is required. Experience in project support and management within international organizations, NGOs, or consultancies is necessary. Experience with public-private sector partnerships in sustainable finance or corporate responsibility is also required. Event management and public speaking experience are beneficial.
Skills
Proven knowledge of sustainable finance, understanding of sustainability drivers in the AME financial sector, ability to manage multiple stakeholders diplomatically, influencing skills, excellent communication (listening, spoken, written), strong interpersonal and relationship management skills. Desirable skills include organizing and delivering written updates, events, conference calls, webinars, proactivity, independent work, and project management.
