Organizational Context
The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) provides support to key Haitian entities and UN bodies, including the Gang Suppression Force, BINUH, Haitian National Police, and Haitian Armed Forces. It also offers technical assistance to the Organization of American States. This temporary Coordination Officer role is based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, within the Office of the Chief, Operations and Resources Management.
Job Purpose
The Coordination Officer is responsible for enhancing mission-wide coherence and collaboration among stakeholders. This involves identifying issues, developing strategies, policies, and programming approaches to strengthen partnerships and advance common objectives between the Mission, the UN Country Team, and other partners. The role contributes to mandate implementation by preparing analytical and strategic documents, providing advice for mission planning and decision-making, and serving as a liaison to facilitate coordination and information sharing. The officer will also support administrative and budgetary matters, ensuring compliance with UN policies and contributing to the overall management of the office and its resources.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include analyzing issues and developing strategies, policies, and advocacy initiatives to promote mission-wide coherence and stakeholder collaboration. The role involves advancing common objectives with partners, preparing analytical and strategic documents, and providing advice for mission planning. It requires developing and maintaining partnerships with various stakeholders, serving as a liaison between the Mission and external entities, and representing the Mission Support Division at coordination mechanisms. The officer will organize and coordinate meetings and events, manage administrative and budgetary matters, and ensure compliance with UN policies and gender mainstreaming principles. Additionally, the role includes supporting resource mobilization, planning, and oversight, drafting policy documents, and assisting in the overall management of the office, including supervision of junior staff.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, diplomacy, conflict resolution, or a related area is required. Extensive experience in political outreach, facilitation, analysis, advice, and reporting is essential. Experience working in a UN field operation or a similar international organization in a conflict or post-conflict setting is also required.
