Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. Its Regional Office for Africa supports regional cooperation and action on environmental challenges. UNEP serves as the Secretariat for the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), facilitating its sessions and decision implementation. This role supports the AMCEN Secretariat's mandate.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to develop and implement communication and outreach strategies to enhance awareness of AMCEN's priorities, decisions, programmes, and achievements. The role will increase visibility among Member States, development partners, media, civil society, youth, and academia. The incumbent will support the AMCEN Secretariat in efficiently executing its mandate, provide assistance to African countries in regional multilateral processes, and contribute to other UNEP Africa Office activities. The ultimate goal is to strengthen AMCEN's coordination and impact through effective communication.
Responsibilities
Develop and submit an inception report and work plan within two weeks. Create draft technical documents, including briefs, reports, and policy notes. Prepare meeting documentation such as agendas, summaries, and outcomes. Produce monthly progress reports detailing activities and achievements. Deliver a final report summarizing all outputs and providing recommendations. Design and implement a comprehensive AMCEN communications and visibility strategy. Develop communication packages for AMCEN meetings and special events, including multimedia products like infographics and videos. Support the AMCEN Secretariat in efficiently carrying out its mandate and provide assistance to African countries in regional multilateral processes.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, public information, media relations, or strategic communications is required. Experience supporting regional multilateral processes or environmental initiatives is beneficial.
