Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to produce a comprehensive discussion paper titled 'Toward an Arab Regional Perspective on Sustainable Development Beyond 2030'. This paper will serve as a foundational document for a regional consultation process led by ESCWA, preparing for the 2027 SDG Summit. The consultant will conduct research, draft the paper, and refine it based on feedback from consultations with VNR focal points. The final deliverable will be a 30-35 page paper in English or Arabic, submitted electronically, and will illustrate concepts with regional and global examples.
Responsibilities
The consultant will undertake a thorough desk review of relevant literature concerning the 2030 Agenda and SDG framework, including national reports from Arab countries. A primary responsibility is to prepare an initial draft of the discussion paper for ESCWA's review and subsequent use in regional consultations. The consultant must actively participate in these consultations, delivering interventions and facilitating discussions. Finally, the consultant will synthesize the outcomes of the consultation process to produce a refined final version of the paper for ESCWA's approval. Close collaboration with the Leader of the 2030 Agenda and SDG Coordination Cluster is expected, with regular progress updates and phased deliverables.
Work Experience
A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in research, formulation, implementation, and analysis of public policy within the Arab region is required. This experience should be substantial and demonstrate a strong understanding of the region's development landscape.
