Organizational Context
This position is within the Office of the Focal Point for Delisting, a Special Political Mission administered by the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. The incumbent reports to the Political Affairs Officer of the Subsidiary Organs Branch, Security Council Affairs Division, while supporting the Focal Point for Delisting.
Job Purpose
The Research Assistant will support the Office of the Focal Point for Delisting by selecting, evaluating, and summarizing documents, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing background materials for various assessments, studies, briefs, and reports. The role involves systematically retrieving and compiling information from diverse sources, maintaining electronic databases, and ensuring the accuracy and validity of statistical material. The incumbent will also prepare profiles for delisting requests, generate reports and presentations, and participate in substantive and policy discussions. Additionally, the role includes maintaining contacts with relevant UN departments and organizations, managing files and databases, and assisting with the preparation and publication of reports. The position also involves administrative duties such as arranging travel, organizing meetings, and providing guidance to junior staff.

Responsibilities also encompass managing and updating files and databases, drafting project summaries, coordinating report finalization and publication, and arranging travel for the Focal Point and staff. The role includes assisting with meeting preparation, attending meetings to take notes and prepare summaries, and providing guidance to junior staff. Administrative duties such as processing salaries, ordering supplies, submitting travel expense reports, and managing visa applications are also part of the role.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of experience in collecting and researching data for social, political, or conflict analysis is required. Demonstrated drafting experience and experience in organizing/arranging travel for officials are also mandatory. One or more years of experience in data analytics or a related area is desirable.
