Associate Public Information Officer
Organizational Context
This position is within the Public Information and Communications Section (PICS) of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) in Tripoli. The role reports directly to the Public Information Officer and overall to the Senior Public Information Officer (Chief of Section), contributing to the mission's communication efforts.
Job Purpose
The incumbent will support the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) by contributing to public information services and guidance for local audiences. This involves assisting in the development and execution of national communication campaigns, creating effective information products tailored to the country's context, and fostering partnerships with local entities to advance the mission's public information agenda. The role is crucial for disseminating information about the mission's aims and activities, managing media relations, and supporting the political process through strategic communication.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include monitoring news and social media, drafting daily headlines and media reviews, and compiling morning news summaries. The role involves producing and disseminating information about the mission to local media and organizations, supporting outreach activities, and interacting in local languages. Additionally, the incumbent will draft diverse communication products in English and Arabic, including social media posts and statements, cover mission events with photo and video, and update digital platforms. Support for internal communications, website administration, and building communication capacity with national partners are also key duties. The role may require working evenings and weekends on a rota basis.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, or public administration is required. Experience in events management and organization is desirable. Prior experience with the United Nations Secretariat or a similar international organization is also desirable.
