Organizational Context

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is seeking an intern for the Office of the Director of the Division on Investment and Enterprise. This is an in-person, full-time, six-month internship based in Geneva, starting as soon as possible. The role offers valuable experience within a UN Secretariat department.

Job Purpose

This internship aims to provide students and recent graduates with practical experience in the work of the United Nations, specifically within UNCTAD's Division on Investment and Enterprise. The intern will support the Office of the Director, contributing to the organization of major events like the World Investment Forum and assisting in research, documentation, and project monitoring. This role is designed to enhance the intern's educational background by exposing them to international trade and development issues, fostering a deeper understanding of the UN's mandate and operations.

Responsibilities

The intern will assist in organizing the 2026 World Investment Forum and other conferences by preparing documentation, liaising with participants, and managing stakeholder databases. Responsibilities include conducting background research for speeches, articles, and formal correspondence on investment for development, sustainable finance, and private sector development. The intern will also help maintain databases, develop user surveys, manage performance tools, and prepare initial drafts of analytical studies. Additionally, they will support the monitoring and assessment of program and project implementation, particularly in areas of investment for development, sustainable finance, private sector development, and investment and gender.

Work Experience

No professional work experience is required for this internship. Applicants must meet the educational criteria, being either a student in the final year of a bachelor's degree program or higher, or having completed such a program within 12 months of the application date.

Computer literacy in standard software applications; keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to its ideals; ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds; willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
