Organizational Context
The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) provides global leadership, operational support, and oversight for the UN Security Management System. UNDSS enables the safe and effective delivery of UN programmes in challenging environments. This internship is within the Policy, Intergovernmental and Partnerships Section (PIPS) of the Office of the Chief of Staff (OCOS), which coordinates UNSMS policies and supports strategic planning.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Policy, Intergovernmental and Partnerships Section (PIPS) within UNDSS. The intern will contribute to the development and promulgation of common UN Security Management System (UNSMS) policies and support senior management on strategic planning. The role involves assisting UNDSS in enabling the implementation of UN mandates while ensuring the safety and security of personnel. The intern will gain practical experience in policy coordination, research, and partnership development within the UN security framework, contributing to the department's mission of providing trusted security leadership and solutions.
Responsibilities
The intern will produce minutes for IASMN-related discussions and other meetings. They will prepare weekly briefings on global security developments and conduct research to address queries on security policy issues. Responsibilities also include contributing to knowledge products on security for UNSMS personnel, such as summary papers, handbooks, infographics, and webinars. Additionally, the intern will research potential donors and funding trends, update a database on donor priorities and intelligence, and support donor meetings by drafting background notes and preparing presentations.
