Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. The CITES Secretariat supports Parties in implementing the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. The MIKE program monitors illegal killing of elephants and potentially other endangered species. This internship is within the MIKE Unit in Nairobi.
Job Purpose
This internship within the CITES MIKE Unit in Nairobi aims to support the planning, research, production, and dissemination of communications and multimedia materials related to wildlife conservation, with a specific focus on the MIKE Program. The intern will contribute to the effective implementation of the MIKE Programme by assisting with various tasks. This includes supporting the organization of meetings, workshops, and events, developing and adapting program-related materials, and aiding in communication efforts with Elephant Range States. The role also involves assisting with data compilation, report preparation, document management, and logistical support for project activities, contributing to the overall efficiency and success of the MIKE Programme's conservation objectives.
Responsibilities
Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and events for the MIKE Programme, including Subregional Steering Committee and Technical Advisory Group meetings. Develop and adapt MIKE-related communication and multimedia materials to support effective delivery of workshops and meetings. Support communication efforts and engagement with Elephant Range States on MIKE-related matters. Take minutes, prepare, and distribute meeting documentation. Assist in compiling and organizing MIKE data on illegal killing trends. Prepare summaries and briefing notes based on MIKE reports and findings. Support document archiving and file organization on shared platforms. Assist with the logistical and administrative preparation of missions, meetings, and project events, including travel arrangements and participant coordination. Maintain planning tools, calendars, and internal tracking systems for efficient project implementation. Undertake other assigned tasks by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is required. Candidates should demonstrate interest and motivation in wildlife conservation, particularly elephant conservation.
Skills
Communication and multimedia material development, event organization, data compilation and analysis, report preparation, document management, logistical and administrative support, project implementation support, proficiency in IT skills and programs.
