Senior Information Systems Assistant
Organizational Context
The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) drives the UN's digital transformation, delivering secure and innovative technology solutions. The Enterprise Solutions Service (OICT/ESS) within OICT develops and supports enterprise solutions for the UN. This role is based in Brindisi, Italy, reporting to a Senior Information Systems Officer.
Job Purpose
The Senior Information Systems Assistant provides crucial support for computer information systems, databases, and applications within the Enterprise Solutions Service. This role involves troubleshooting, participating in the development and implementation of new application systems, and conducting version management. The incumbent will design and develop application systems using various programming languages and UN IT standards, install software and hardware, and monitor system performance. Additionally, the position contributes to system analysis, design, development, and testing of improvements and new systems, ensuring efficient operation and support for UN users.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include providing comprehensive support for computer information systems, databases, and applications, including complex troubleshooting. The role involves participating in the full lifecycle of application systems, from development, programming, testing, and debugging to implementation and version management. Designing and developing application systems using multiple programming languages and UN IT standards is essential. This includes installing software and hardware, monitoring system performance, and producing reports. The position also entails managing and maintaining technical documentation, refining support and operations procedures, and potentially leading projects for simple application systems. Contributing to feasibility studies, systems analysis, and the identification of user needs, including workflow analysis and document management, is also part of the role. Support for system development matters, including security and data backup, drafting communications, and staying updated on new technologies are also key duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in information systems analysis, programming, systems administration, or software development is required (8 years with a first-level university degree). Significant experience in business analysis, system and data integration (e.g., SAP), data analysis and modeling (PowerBI, Power Query), and ETL development (SQL, PowerQuery) is also necessary. Experience leading development teams using Agile methodology is required.
