Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Lao PDR is seeking an intern to support its programme activities. This full-time, 6-month internship is based in Vientiane Capital and will operate under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager and in close collaboration with the TOC Team.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to provide support to the UNODC Programme Manager and the TOC Team in the implementation and coordination of programme activities. The intern will contribute to various aspects of programme management, including document drafting and review, communication and visibility efforts, stakeholder coordination, and event organization. This role aims to offer practical experience in international development and crime prevention, allowing the intern to gain exposure to UN operations and contribute to the office's objectives. The intern will also provide essential administrative and operational support, ensuring the smooth functioning of programme initiatives and team priorities.
Responsibilities
Support the Programme Manager and TOC Team in the overall implementation and coordination of programme activities. Assist in drafting, editing, and reviewing official correspondence, reports, briefing notes, presentations, and meeting minutes. Contribute to programme communication and visibility by drafting success stories, newsletters, and social media content. Coordinate and communicate with national counterparts, government authorities, implementing partners, and civil society organizations. Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, training activities, and field missions, including logistical arrangements. Provide administrative and operational support, such as document preparation, filing, record management, scheduling, and data compilation. Perform other assigned duties to support programme objectives and team priorities.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Desirable experience includes designing surveys, drafting reports and presentations, organizing events, and working effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Skills
Proficiency in standard computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, online collaboration tools). Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations. Ability to interact successfully with individuals from different cultural backgrounds. Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Fluency in Lao is desirable.
