Organizational Context
The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) drives the UN's digital transformation, providing secure and innovative technology solutions. The Enterprise Solutions Service (OICT/ESS) develops and supports enterprise solutions for the UN. This role is based in Brindisi, Italy, reporting to a Senior Information Systems Officer within OICT/ESS.
Job Purpose
The Senior Information Systems Assistant provides technical assistance and team supervision for server operations and administration, ensuring 24x7 system reliability. This includes overseeing installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of server hardware and software, both on-premises and in the cloud. The role also involves supporting custom software solutions, managing service requests, escalating complex issues, and contributing to system documentation and reporting. The incumbent will assist in identifying system needs, implementing backups, and liaising with other departments to ensure efficient operations. Additionally, the role supports data analysis, presentation, and the updating of information materials.
Responsibilities
Oversee server operations and administration, including installation, configuration, testing, and deployment of server hardware and software on-premises and in the cloud. Provide technical assistance, troubleshoot complex server issues, and ensure 24x7 system monitoring and operation. Manage and coordinate the work of a technical team, providing guidance and training. Support custom software solutions by logging and tracking service requests, acting as an escalation point, and resolving hardware, software, or connectivity problems. Assist in researching and resolving complex technical issues, and maintain system documentation. Implement server backup procedures, collect performance statistics, and produce reports. Contribute to the design and improvement of automated tracking systems and assist with data analysis and presentation.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in information technology is required (8 years with a university degree). This includes 7 years supporting custom application hosting for international organizations, 7 years managing servers and virtual machines on-premises and Azure using IaC/CI/CD, and 6 years writing CI/CD pipelines for Azure DevOps. Experience with Disaster Recovery Plans and C# web application development is also required.
